Steve Hammerson: Hammerson wants to become a contributor to the inner workings and future of Roseburg. Hammerson said he wants to be involved in the future of Roseburg and help to create a city people won’t want to leave.
“Residents of Roseburg should vote for me if they want an elected official that exhibits humility, patience, and grace to the community,” Hammerson said. “I think the elected officials in Roseburg should be the people that will listen to the communities voice and openly speak with them.”
According to Hammerson, state policies have only harmed public spaces like Stewart Park. He wants to utilize the measure to treat the homeless population of Roseburg with compassion while reinvigorating those public spaces. Hammerson wants to accomplish this by “actively listening” to the community.
“I’m interested in having conversations with law enforcement regarding challenges and feasibility of current and future city ordinances,” Hammerson said. “Also listening to local business owners and the challenges they face in maintaining prosperity. Veterans, the elderly population, and families are all key groups to listen to.”
Hammerson said he has a motivation and vested interest in Roseburg to serve it’s community and foster the “greatest future outcome.” According to Hammerson, his background in the labor industry, security, restaurant management, fire and law enforcement experiences make him uniquely qualified for the seat.
“I have a BS in criminal justice from Western Oregon University (summa cum laude) with a minor in business,” Hammerson said. “My volunteer experience most recently is my service on the school board. Having children in Roseburg, I feel the duty to serve and give back to my community.”
